![]() Happy Sunday! Today is quite the rainy day outside. So, this is the perfect setting to write a blog post. I have a mug of hot chocolate to my left in my favourite Monsters Inc. mug to keep me warm, and I am ready to blog! I thought it would be great to share with all the blog readers some of my favourite Twitter accounts to follow. Twitter is becoming such a prominent part of the classroom nowadays. I know during my first Practicum that I was tweeting up a storm in my room. My students would always see me take pictures for Twitter to share with our school and community. I would always have kids announcing, "Miss. Caiti, I made something. Can you take a picture?" I loved sharing with others the many activities that took place in our classroom. It is also great to have a good set of resources to follow on Twitter. I grabbed a few ideas from what other teachers or educational accounts tweeted out (not to mention, used Pinterest to death!) Today, I have compiled a list of my favourite Twitter accounts to share with you. I will include links as well so you can follow yourself! 5) Math Monkey 4) Literacy Llama I thought these two accounts made the most sense together. These are excellent Twitter accounts for Primary teachers. These accounts tweet out excellent Math observations and great books that encourage student inquiry. I really like seeing what other teachers do to incorporate Math and Language in their classrooms. Plus, these accounts are great for retweeting! If you tag either of these accounts in pictures or tweets, they like to retweet out to the community. It is very rewarding seeing your hard work out on the internet. #internetbraggingrights :) 3) Edutopia I found this account during First Year. It is a very handy account to follow for the many articles they tweet out. The articles range from activity ideas to how to collaborate with teachers, and classroom strategies. I love to retweet articles from Edutopia to share with others. The articles are short and easy to read. I recently retweeted an article about favourite TV shows with an educational theme (yay Freaks and Geeks!) 2) Ottawa Slow EdChat Ottawa Slow EdChat is an excellent way for teachers to interact with one another. The account posts a different Education-related topic each week. Followers and participants respond to the question with the #OttSlowChat. The topics change every week, and the amount of variety gives a lot of options for teachers. I have found some topics work better for me than others, but you can follow the chat and reply to other tweets. This trending hashtag gives people a lot of new ideas to use, tips to follow, or resources to read. It's nice to get insight from other teachers, and this is an excellent way to connect with teachers from around the world. 1) The Breakfast Club My last Twitter account is by far my favourite. It has become my morning tradition. The Breakfast Club account gathers each morning from Monday to Friday at 5:30am in four different time zones. A question is posed each day and followers respond using the #bfc530. The questions can be submitted to The Breakfast Club website and new questions are chosen each week. I had the opportunity to moderate a BFC530 chat a few weeks ago. I found all the teachers and educators responding to be extremely helpful with their answers. I loved replying to tweets and generating more conversation. If you want to do something that makes the morning wake up a little easier, join in on the morning chat!
I hope this list has been helpful! I know when I was first starting out on Twitter I was following everything and anything teaching related. I have learned to cut out a lot of accounts and keep my favourite ones. I hope these 5 can become some of your favourite accounts too! Please comment below with any other Education related accounts I should follow. And, as always, I will finish this post with a #shamelessplug to follow me on Twitter >>> @cstar012 for more blog posts and future updates :) Have a great rest of the weekend, Miss Starkey :)
